After struggling in the tournament opener, the Hawks came ready
to play Saturday morning against one of the host Carleton teams (the Misfits). It
took Captain Will Shaw, picking up where he left off the night before, less
than 5-minutes to stake the Hawks to a lead they would never relinquish
(unassisted). While the Hawks played extremely well throughout, and rarely
afforded the Misfits any quality scoring chances, they did struggle with their
scoring touch to a degree, leaving the second period up only 2-0 on the strength
of Duncan Christie’s 3rd goal of the tournament on an excellent feed
from Ramin Imran; who was in full go mode from the moment the puck dropped to open
this important contest (a second assist was also awarded to Will Shaw on the
play). The third period was another story, with the Hawks rattling off three
straight goals within a 44 second span to put the game far out of reach.
-
Goal # 3 – Duncan Christie (Will Shaw and Trent
Haines assisting)
-
Goal # 4 – Denver Pike (Duncan Christie)
-
Goal # 5 – Keaton MacPhee (Denver Pike)
Unfortunately, Justin Chronkite’s second shutout bid of the
season was spoiled with only 49 seconds to play, and was the only blemish on an
otherwise dominating performance.
Ramin Imran played, by far, his best game of the year; competing
hard in both the offensive and defensive ends of the ice, and was awarded the
game MVP for his superb efforts! Duncan Christie, recording back-to-back multi-goal games in the tournament, was also
well deserving of, and proudly displaying, the Hard Hat!
